What’s up chess fanatics? The Chessnut Pro with Premium pieces is a full-sized e-board with beautiful premium wooden pieces. Whether you’re seeking seamless online play, detailed game analysis, or a centrepiece that sparks conversations, the Chessnut PRO really delivers on all fronts, especially compared to its competition.
I’ve spent a lot of time with Chessnut Products including the Chessnut Go and I’ve been surprised with how well they perform in comparison to other e-board in the market. This board has a standard option and a premium option, and I’ve heard that they only generate around 1 set of premium pieces per day, so they are more exclusive and harder to come by but also more expensive. I thought I would buy this one to better compare and contrast it against my other boards.
The board relies on a PC, MAC, Tablet, Phone to operate and in this respect, it is the same as the Chessnut Go. I’ve linked that article above so if you want a deeper dive on the functionality feel free to look at that review. I’ve also created this companion YouTube video to go over the Pro’s and Con’s so if that’s more your style feel free to watch it.
This is another good offering from Chessnut with a high-quality feel and great function. The pieces are a little light compared to my preferences but they are still reasonably weighted so I can’t really fault them. The contrast issues of the board still exist, this is similar to what I experienced on the Chessnut Go. I’m not sure why they’ve chosen the lighter aesthetic, but I would prefer a darker, more contrasty and punchy board.
This is a full tournament sized board, so buyer beware if space is at a premium. I think Chessnut has been smart to have a bunch of travel and study sized options available. I suspect those sales would greatly outpace the sales of full-size boards as they seem to offer more utility. The one thing they don’t do is give you that tournament experience and there is something to be said for playing a game of chess on a full-sized board.
Online play has been rock solid as has all the AI offerings that exist within the app itself. If you’re looking for a full-sized board in 2025, I would definitely recommend the Chessnut Pro. Its functionality and ease of use clearly differentiate it from the pack.
